Virtual Mattes is a Digital Environments and Matte Painting Studio based in London and was established by Senior Digital Matte Painter and VFX Supervisor Serdar Simga in 2004.
Virtual Mattes specialises in Digital Matte Painting, Digital environments, Digital Set extensions and Concept Art.
As we are consultants and hands on senior artists, we work with directors and creative departments to develop and achieve their vision with solutions that remain within the production's budget.
Any project, large or small, we work towards tight deadlines and budget constraints, with our solid commitment and friendly approach. Our involvement with your projects can cover; Consultancy, Concept Art, VFX Supervision and 2D/3D Digital Matte Paintings.
Having nationwide and international expertise, we bring a wealth of creative solutions to your projects. Our expert knowledge aims to form lasting relationships with our clients and provides them with a project specific VFX service.
After completing a BA and Master’s Degree in Fine Arts-Traditional Painting, Serdar started out in his career in 1996 working for ‘Pictor’ (one of the country’s leading digital photo libraries), developing concept ideas and creating and correcting photographic images using 2D and 3D digital imaging techniques. He went on to work with both, ‘Foster and Partners’ and then ‘Pod Productions’, Architects and Designers where he set up the Digital Environment and Visualisation Department. In the midst of this, Serdar completed a second Master’s Degree, this time in Computer Animation and Visual Effects at Bournemouth University.
Serdar then made the leap from architectural visualisation into visual effects in 2000, spending the next eight years working as a Freelance Senior Digital Matte Painter/Digital Environment Specialist at most of the main London VFX facilities (‘Henson’s Creature Shop’, ‘Framestore-CFC’, ‘Senate’ ‘Moving Picture Company’ and ‘Double Negative’) resulting in a credit list to be proud of.
Serdar’s collaboration with production companies allowed him the flexibility to be hands-on supervisor, being involved from pre-production through to post-production, whilst still being able to matte paint himself as part of the creative team. Recently Serdar has supervised productions such as ‘Olympus’, ‘Conan The Barbarian’, ‘The Devil’s Whore ‘, ‘The Take’, ‘The Palace’ and ‘Malek.’
Serdar set out to establish Virtual Mattes Ltd at 2004 as a Digital Matte Painting and Digital Environments studio with a sole purpose to provide an outstanding and tailor-made VFX service with a pragmatic and cost-effective approach to his client’s needs.
We are very proud to announce that Virtual Mattes exceeds all the expectations of the VFX industry and provides not only Digital Matte Painting and Digital Environment services but welcomes all the relevant VFX needs of its clients as a one stop shop.
